Transportation in Dresden

Dresden's public backbone is the DVB network: trams and buses blanket the Altstadt and reach every outer district. A single day ticket is cheap and covers the lot. Buy it from the red DVB machines at any tram stop or load it onto the DVB app so you never queue again. Trams run so frequently that you can simply show up at the major hubs, Postplatz, Albertplatz, Pirnaischer Platz, and hop on the next one heading your way. For the airport, the S-Bahn line S2 is the smart move: direct, fast, and a fraction of a taxi fare. It drops you at Dresden-Neustadt or the main station, both tram interchanges, so you're in the old town within minutes. Skip the unofficial cab touts outside arrivals. If you do need a taxi, use the official rank and insist on the meter.
